NDIS Funding.

The majority of our clients are funded through the NDIS. Our services fall within Mid-Cost Assistive Technology or Low-Cost Assistive Technology (consumables) budgets. More information on Assistive Technology (AT) funding can be found on the NDIS website: Assistive technology explained | NDIS

  • Mid cost Assistive Technology covers items between $1500 and $15,000 and falls within your Assistive Technology or AT budget (CAPTIAL SUPPORTS). To have funding included in your plan for orthoses (AFOs, SMOs, KAFOs, etc.), you will need to provide the NDIS with some evidence (including a cost estimate). A quote from Nova Orthotics may be sufficient, however some NDIA planners may also request a letter of support. We can provide this for you, but would charge for our time. Alternatively your physio may also provide this for you.

  • Low cost AT covers items below $1500 and falls within your consumables budget (CORE SUPPORTS). This normally covers our lower cost items such as shoes, socks, in-shoe foot orthotics, and off the shelf devices. A quote is recommended for planning purposes so that you can request enough funds in your consumables budget to cover the required devices.

  • Occasionally we charge for appointments, such as Initial consults/assessments and reviews outside of warranty. These would be charged at an hourly rate to CB daily/ also referred to as improved daily living (Capacity Building Support). If you require us to write a support letter for plan review purposes, we would also charge our time from this budget.

How are your supports managed?

NDIS budgets can be managed in three ways: Self, Plan, or NDIA-managed. Each budget can be managed differently, or even a combination of the above options. More information can be found on the NDIS website: Ways to manage your funding | NDIS

Nova Orthotics is not told how the funding is managed in your NDIS plan.

The NDIS will not discuss your plan or funding concerns with our staff.

It is your responsibility to make sure your funding is approved before contacting us for an appointment for new orthoses.

  • If you are ‘Self-managed’ you are treated as a private paying client. It is your responsibility to check that funding is approved prior to the initial casting appointment.

After casting, the invoice is sent directly to you and must be paid before we can supply your orthoses at the fitting appointment.

  • If you are ‘NDIA-managed’ (previously called Agency-managed) a service booking needs to be made in the NDIS portal.

NDIS staff sometimes make the service booking when funding is approved.

Nova Orthotics can make a service booking at your request.

Important: You may have several different items in your Assistive Technology budget and it is your responsibility to make sure the funds for the orthoses are available. The easiest way for us to make the service booking is for you to share a copy of the participant’s plan, or at a minimum, a screen grab of the Assistive Technology portion of the plan.

  • If you are ‘Plan-managed’ please provide us with the details of your designated plan manager.

Nova Orthotics requires written confirmation of funding prior to booking of a casting appointment.

With your consent, Nova Orthotics will send a quote to the plan manager and request confirmation of funding. We will cc you into the email so that you are kept informed of the progress.

If we do not receive a response from the plan manager, it is the responsibility of the client to chase up further.

Troubleshooting.

  • If you have a Co-ordinator of Supports or ‘COS’ they are the best contact to help you with funding. If you provide Nova Orthotics with their contact details, we can liaise directly with them to sort out funding.

  • The contact number for the NDIS is 1800 800 110. Nova Orthotics staff do not have the authority to contact the NDIS on your behalf.

  • Your LAC or ECIC will also be able to support you in the process of resolving funding.
